Enigma est un projet musical allemand de new age créé en 1990 par le compositeur d’origine roumaine Michael Cretu.
Au départ, un projet musical, créé par Michael Cretu en 1990 et auquel participe activement Frank Peterson, son collaborateur-assistant et, depuis le début, sa femme Sandra Cretu, chanteuse célèbre notamment durant les années 1980. Frank Peterson était compositeur et producteur mais n’a participé qu’au premier single. Michael est lui aussi compositeur et producteur tandis que Sandra chante sur plusieurs titres.
Enigma s’est fait connaître par son premier album (MCMXC a.D.) où les chants grégoriens étaient omniprésents. Ce disque a connu un immense succès international, notamment grâce au premier single extrait, Sadeness, classé no 1 dans plusieurs pays et dans le Top 5 aux États-Unis. Ce single présente des chants grégoriens se juxtaposant à un beat dance et à des paroles sensuelles dites en français par sa femme de l’époque, Sandra Cretu (celle-ci n’apparaît d’ailleurs pas dans le clip accompagnant ce single, remplacée par Cathy Tastet, une jeune mannequin de 17 ans à l’époque).

Inițial, un proiect muzical, creat de Michael Crețu în 1990 și la care a participat activ Frank Peterson, colaboratorul său-asistent și, de la început, soția sa Sandra Crețu, o cântăreață celebră în special în anii 1980. Frank Peterson a fost compozitor și producător, dar a participat doar la primul single. Michael este, de asemenea, compozitor și producător, în timp ce Sandra cântă pe mai multe piese.
Enigma a devenit cunoscută pentru primul său album (MCMXC a.D.) în care cântecele gregoriene erau omniprezente. Acest disc s-a bucurat de un succes internațional imens, în special datorită primului single, Sadeness, clasat pe locul 1 în mai multe țări și în Top 5 în Statele Unite. Acest single prezintă cântece gregoriene juxtapuse cu un ritm de dans și versuri senzuale spuse în franceză de soția sa de la acea vreme, Sandra Crețu (ea nu apare în videoclipul care însoțește acest single, înlocuită de Cathy Tastet, un tânăr model în vârstă de 17 ani la acea vreme.)

Enigma is a German new age musical project created in 1990 by Romanian-born composer Michael Cretu.
Initially, a musical project, created by Michael Cretu in 1990 and in which Frank Peterson, his collaborator-assistant and, from the beginning, his wife Sandra Cretu, famous singer particularly during the 1980s, participated actively. Frank Peterson was a composer and producer but only participated in the first single. Michael is also a composer and producer while Sandra sings on several tracks.
Enigma became known for its first album (MCMXC a.D.) where Gregorian chants were omnipresent. This disc enjoyed immense international success, notably thanks to the first single, Sadeness, ranked No. 1 in several countries and in the Top 5 in the United States. This single presents Gregorian chants juxtaposed with a dance beat and sensual lyrics said in French by his wife at the time, Sandra Cretu (she does not appear in the video accompanying this single, replaced by Cathy Tastet, a young model aged 17 at the time).
