La Machine à explorer le temps (The Time Machine) est un film américain réalisé par Simon Wells, sorti en 2002 et tiré du roman de H. G. Wells.

Synopsis:

New York, 1899. Alexander Hartdegen, brillant professeur à l’université Columbia est obsédé avec le voyage à travers le temps. Il croit que c’est théoriquement possible et, dans ses classes à l’université, il entre parfois en conflit avec d’autres professeurs par sa pensée libre. Il maintient une correspondance sur le sujet avec Albert Einstein lui-même, un employé de l’époque à l’office des brevets de Berne, en Suisse.

Une nuit, Alexander se dirige vers le parc où sa fiancée Emma l’attend et, en chemin, il s’étonne devant une invention nouvelle : une voiture qui fonctionne, non pas avec des chevaux, mais grâce à un moteur. De plus, il se rend compte que le conducteur n’a pas mis le frein, il le fait pour éviter un accident. Par cela, il oublie d’acheter un bouquet de fleurs qu’il avait promis à Emma.

Il finit par rejoindre cette dernière, le couple fait une promenade et Alexander s’apprête à demander sa main, en lui offrant une bague en pierre de lune dans Central Park. Mais la demande en mariage est interrompue par un voleur surgissant d’entre les arbustes apostrophant le couple puis sortant un pistolet, il vole le portefeuille, les gants et une montre à gousset à Alexander. Mais quand le voleur essaie de voler la bague de fiançailles au doigt d’Emma, une lutte s’engage entre les trois protagonistes et un coup de feu touche la jeune femme. Le voleur s’enfuyant, Emma meurt rapidement dans les bras de son fiancé…

Synopsis:

New York, 1899. Alexander Hartdegen, a brilliant professor at Columbia University, is obsessed with time travel. He believes it is theoretically possible, and in his university classes, his free-thinking sometimes brings him into conflict with other professors. He maintains a correspondence on the subject with Albert Einstein himself, an employee at the patent office in Bern, Switzerland.

One night, Alexander heads to the park where his fiancée Emma is waiting for him, and on the way, he is amazed by a new invention: a car that runs not on horses, but on an engine. He also realizes that the driver hasn’t put on the brakes; he’s doing it to avoid an accident. As a result, he forgets to buy a bouquet of flowers he had promised Emma.

He eventually joins her, the couple takes a walk and Alexander prepares to propose, offering her a moonstone ring in Central Park. But the proposal is interrupted by a thief emerging from the bushes, accosting the couple and then pulling out a pistol, he steals Alexander’s wallet, gloves and a pocket watch. But when the thief tries to steal the engagement ring from Emma’s finger, a struggle ensues between the three protagonists and a gunshot hits the young woman. The thief flees, and Emma quickly dies in the arms of her fiancé…

„Mașina timpului” este un film american de comedie din 2002, regizat de Simon Wells, bazat pe romanul lui H. G. Wells.

Rezumat:

New York, 1899. Alexander Hartdegen, un profesor strălucit la Universitatea Columbia, este obsedat de călătoria în timp. El crede că este teoretic posibilă, iar în cursurile universitare, gândirea sa liberă îl aduce uneori în conflict cu alți profesori. El menține o corespondență pe această temă cu însuși Albert Einstein, angajat la biroul de brevete din Berna, Elveția.

Într-o seară, Alexander merge în parc unde îl așteaptă logodnica sa, Emma. Pe drum, este uimit de o nouă invenție: o trăsură acționată nu de cai, ci de un motor. Își dă seama, de asemenea, că șoferul nu a frânat; evită la limită un accident. Drept urmare, uită să cumpere buchetul de flori pe care i-l promisese Emmei.

În cele din urmă, el i se alătură, cuplul se plimbă, iar Alexander se pregătește să o ceară în căsătorie, oferindu-i un inel cu piatră lunară în Central Park. Dar cererea este întreruptă de un hoț care iese din tufișuri, abordează cuplul și apoi scoate un pistol, furând portofelul, mănușile și un ceas de buzunar al lui Alexander. Dar când hoțul încearcă să fure inelul de logodnă de pe degetul Emmei, are loc o luptă între cei trei protagoniști, iar tânăra femeie este lovită de un foc de armă. Hoțul fuge, iar Emma moare rapid în brațele logodnicului ei…
