Retour vers le futur (Back to the Future) est un film de science-fiction américain réalisé par Robert Zemeckis, sorti en 1985.
L’intrigue du film relate les aventures de Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), un adolescent qui voyage dans le passé à bord d’une machine à voyager dans le temps fabriquée par son ami le docteur Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) à partir d’une voiture DeLorean DMC-12. Parti de l’année 1985 et propulsé le , Marty, aidé du « Doc » de 1955, doit résoudre les paradoxes temporels provoqués par son passage dans le passé, et doit aussi trouver le moyen de faire fonctionner la machine pour retourner à son époque. Marty sera notamment confronté à ses parents, George (Crispin Glover) et Lorraine McFly (Lea Thompson) qui, à l’époque, sont encore des adolescents. Enfin, Marty devra lutter contre les stratagèmes d’un autre adolescent, Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson).
Alors que le film était prévu comme film unique, son succès commercial a donné lieu à deux suites, Retour vers le futur 2 (1989) et Retour vers le futur 3 (1990), qui forment une trilogie et ont entraîné le développement d’une franchise sur divers supports.

Back to the Future is an American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 1985.
The film’s plot recounts the adventures of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a teenager who travels to the past in a time machine built by his friend, Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), from a DeLorean DMC-12 car. Starting from 1985 and propelled to November 5, 1955, Marty, aided by the 1955 version of « Doc, » must resolve the time paradoxes caused by his journey to the past and also find a way to get the time machine working again to return to his own time. Marty will notably encounter his parents, George (Crispin Glover) and Lorraine McFly (Lea Thompson), who are still teenagers at that time. Finally, Marty will have to contend with the schemes of another teenager, Biff Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson).
Although the film was originally intended as a standalone movie, its commercial success led to two sequels, Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990), which form a trilogy and led to the development of a franchise across various media.
