Anthony Fauci, ancien conseiller médical de la Maison-Blanche et ancien directeur du National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a été entendu par une commission du Sénat américain dans le cadre d’une enquête sur la gestion de la pandémie de COVID-19 et les origines du virus.
Lors de cette audition, plusieurs sénateurs l’ont accusé d’avoir joué un rôle dans le financement de recherches qui auraient pu contribuer à l’émergence du SARS-CoV-2. À plusieurs reprises, il a invoqué le Cinquième amendement de la Constitution américaine, qui permet à une personne de refuser de répondre à des questions susceptibles de l’incriminer.
Au cours de l’audition, il a également été interrogé sur des recherches biomédicales financées par les National Institutes of Health (NIH) ayant impliqué l’utilisation de tissus fœtaux humains issus d’avortements légaux dans certains protocoles expérimentaux. Ce sujet fait depuis plusieurs années l’objet d’une vive controverse éthique et politique aux États-Unis.

Anthony Fauci, former White House medical advisor and former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was heard by a U.S. Senate committee as part of an investigation into the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the origins of the virus.
During this hearing, several senators accused him of playing a role in funding research that may have contributed to the emergence of SARS-CoV-2. On several occasions, he invoked the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which allows a person to refuse to answer questions that could incriminate them.
During the hearing, he was also questioned about biomedical research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that involved the use of human fetal tissue from legal abortions in some experimental protocols. This issue has been the subject of intense ethical and political controversy in the United States for several years.
