Patrick Cowley, entre la disco et la New wave électronique
Vibrant hommage
Patrick Cowley (1950-1982) fait partie de ces pionniers sans veine dans l’histoire officielle de la musique électronique new wave.
Il a été maltraité par ses pairs. Probablement parce que le genre musical dans lequel il avait choisi d’innover – le disco électronique – visait avant tout à obtenir une reconnaissance dans le milieu très spécifique des clubs gays californiens du début des années 80.
Décédé beaucoup trop tôt en ne laissant de lui que la pointe de l’ice berg, ce qu’il aurait pu apporter à la musique d’aujourd’hui est incommensurable.
A tous les Jeunes qui se lancent dans la musique, Cowley est une référence à ne pas négliger. On le retrouve ici avec quelques vidéos incluant sa courte association avec le chanteur Sylvester.

In tribute
Patrick Cowley (1950-1982) is one of those unlucky pioneers in the official history of new wave electronic music.
He was mistreated by his peers. Probably because the musical genre in which he had chosen to innovate – electronic disco – was primarily aimed at gaining validation in the very specific milieu of Californian gay clubs in the early 80s.
Gone far too soon, leaving behind only the tip of the iceberg, his contribution to today’s music could have been enormous.
For all young, aspiring musicians, Cowley is an essential figure to be reckoned with, a true reference point. He is featured here in several videos, including his brief collaboration with singer Sylvester.

Kid Francescoli est un groupe de pop electro français, originaire de Marseille, formé par Mathieu Hocine en 2002. À partir de 2009, ce dernier travaille avec Julia Minkin avec qui il co-écrit les chansons et avec Mathieu Chrétien à la batterie pour les concerts.
Kid Francescoli rencontre le succès en 2013 avec son troisième album, With Julia, marqué notamment par le titre Blow Up et son clip, un petit court-métrage. Le quatrième album sorti en 2017, Play Me Again, confirme cette réussite à travers une tournée internationale de près de deux ans et plusieurs tubes notamment Moon (and It Went Like…) qui cumule plus de 50 millions de vues sur YouTube et qui bat des records au niveau planétaire sur TikTok.
En 2019, Mathieu Hocine s’entoure de quatre nouvelles chanteuses pour préparer son cinquième album, Lovers, qui sort le . La nouvelle tournée internationale, rapidement arrêtée du fait de la COVID, redémarre un an plus tard avec notamment un passage à l’Olympia qui affiche complet le .
La musique de Kid Francescoli a été utilisée pour de nombreux spots publicitaires (Façonnable, Lanvin, Lacoste, Chanel, Lancôme, Aldi, Citroën…), dans des séries (Mafiosa, Skam, Valeria et Emily in Paris) mais également au cinéma (bande originale de Azuro, long métrage de Matthieu Rozé).

Kid Francescoli is a French electro pop band, originally from Marseille, formed by Mathieu Hocine in 2002. From 2009, the latter worked with Julia Minkin with whom he co-wrote the songs and with Mathieu Chrétien on drums for concerts .
Kid Francescoli met with success in 2013 with his third album, With Julia, marked in particular by the title Blow Up and its clip, a short film. The fourth album released in 2017, Play Me Again, confirms this success through an international tour of nearly two years and several hits including Moon (and It Went Like…) which has accumulated more than 50 million views on YouTube and which is breaking global records on TikTok.
In 2019, Mathieu Hocine surrounds himself with four new singers to prepare his fifth album, Lovers, which will be released on January 31, 2020. The new international tour, quickly stopped due to COVID, restarts a year later with in particular a passage to the Olympia which is sold out on June 17, 2021.
Kid Francescoli’s music has been used for many commercials (Façonnable, Lanvin, Lacoste, Chanel, Lancôme, Aldi, Citroën…), in series (Mafiosa, Skam, Valeria and Emily in Paris) but also in the cinema (soundtrack by Azuro, feature film by Matthieu Rozé).

In Europe, the automobile industry is not in the best of shape, in 2016 Vitalic’s music was used to illustrate an advert for the Peugeot brand and unlike the brand, the music is doing well.

La musique a bien été accueillie par les critiques musicaux. AllMusic a qualifié le titre «pop accessible». Drum ‘n’ Bass: The Rough Guide a également décrit la chanson comme étant un titre « rétro-électronique ». La chanson a aussi été incluse dans l’album « 1001 » que vous devriez écouter avant de mourir.
A ceux nés des années 2000, un bon souvenir et à ceux d’aujourd’hui, un bon instrumental qui n’a pas pris une seule ride.

The song was well received by music critics. AllMusic called the song « accessible pop. »Drum ‘n’ Bass: The Rough Guide described the song as « retro-electronics ». The song was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
To those born in the 2000s, a good memory and to those of today, a good instrumental that has not aged a single day.

« Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) » is a song by Australian worship group Hillsong United. It was released on 23 August 2013 as the second and final single from their third studio album, Zion (2013). The song is led by Taya Smith, and was written by Matt Crocker, Joel Houston and Salomon Ligthelm, with production being handled by Michael Guy Chislett.
The song ideas began early in the production of the album. Crocker worked with Ligthelm later back in Australia to write more of the lyrics and Ligthelm helped deciding that the theme of the song should be about stepping into the unknown and Peter having blind trust to walk on water. Much of the melody was written over the course of 10 days at Houston’s apartment in New York. The last lyrics were written at a waterfall on the final day of recording.
The song was recorded by singer Taya Smith who sang many parts of the song in one take.

Cântecul este regizat de Taya Smith și a fost scris de Matt Crocker, Joel Houston și Salomon Ligthelm, producția fiind ocupată de Michael Guy Chislett.
Ideile de cântece au început la începutul producției albumului. Crocker a lucrat cu Ligthelm mai târziu în Australia pentru a scrie mai multe versuri, iar Ligthelm a ajutat să decidă că tema cântecului ar trebui să fie una a pășirii în necunoscut și a credinței oarbe a lui Peter de a merge pe apă. O mare parte din melodie a fost scrisă pe parcursul a 10 zile în apartamentul din Houston din New York. Versurile finale au fost scrise lângă o cascadă în ultima zi de înregistrare.
Cântecul a fost înregistrat de cântăreața Taya Smith, care a cântat multe părți ale cântecului dintr-o singură mișcare.

J’ai eu la chance d’être présenté à Vangelis lors d’un concert qu’il donnait à Athènes en Grèce. Nous étions depuis devenus des amis très proches. Ce que nous avions en commun Vangelis et moi, c’est de composer la musique sans ne jamais l’écrire.
Vangelis naît le à Agría, village limitrophe de Vólos. Il commence à jouer du piano à l’âge de quatre ans et donne la première représentation publique de ses propres compositions à l’âge de six ans. Autodidacte, il n’a aucune connaissance du solfège.
En 1981, Vangelis travaille avec le réalisateur Hugh Hudson pour composer la bande originale des Chariots de feu. En 1982, la consécration lui vient avec l’Oscar de la meilleure musique de film. Il n’est pas présent pour recevoir le prix, c’est le présentateur William Hurt qui récupère le prix à sa place. Cette même année, il commence à travailler avec le réalisateur Ridley Scott. Il compose alors la musique de Blade Runner pour laquelle il est nommé au BAFTA Awards, ainsi qu’aux Golden Globes en 1983.

The song of seagulls inspires escape and freedom in me. Often, I find myself strolling along the edge of the lake to observe and listen to these magnificent birds that make me irresistibly want to take to the open sea.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Vangelis during a concert he gave in Athens, Greece. We had since become very close friends. What Vangelis and I had in common was composing music without ever writing it.
Vangelis was born on March 29, 1943 in Agría, a village bordering Volos. He began playing the piano at the age of four and gave the first public performance of his own compositions at the age of six. Self-taught, he has no knowledge of music theory.
In 1981, Vangelis worked with director Hugh Hudson to compose the soundtrack to Chariots of Fire. In 1982, he received recognition with the Oscar for best film music. He is not present to receive the award, presenter William Hurt collects the award in his place. That same year, he began working with director Ridley Scott. He then composed the music for Blade Runner for which he was nominated for the BAFTA Awards, as well as the Golden Globes in 1983.

Am avut norocul să fiu prezentat lui Vangelis în timpul unui concert pe care l-a susținut la Atena, Grecia. De atunci devenim prieteni foarte apropiați. Ceea ce eu și Vangelis aveam în comun era să compunem muzică fără să o scriem vreodată.
Vangelis s-a născut pe 29 martie 1943 în Agría, un sat de la marginea Volosului. A început să cânte la pian la vârsta de patru ani și a susținut prima interpretare publică a propriilor sale compoziții la vârsta de șase ani. Autodidact, nu are cunoștințe de teoria muzicii.
În 1981, Vangelis a lucrat cu regizorul Hugh Hudson pentru a compune coloana sonoră pentru Chariots of Fire. În 1982, a primit recunoașterea cu Oscar pentru cea mai bună muzică de film.
