Crime of the Century est le troisième album studio du groupe de rock anglais Supertramp, sorti en septembre 1974 sur A&M Records. Crime of the Century a été la percée commerciale de Supertramp dans de nombreux pays, notamment au Royaume-Uni, au Canada et en Allemagne, où il a atteint un sommet dans le Top 5 tout en faisant également partie du Top 20 en Australie et en France. C’était une amélioration par rapport à leurs ventes précédentes aux États-Unis, mais n’a toujours culminé qu’au n ° 38, le hit américain étant « Bloody Well Right ». « School » était un autre morceau populaire, en particulier dans les stations de radio orientées album rock. L’album a finalement été certifié Or aux États-Unis en 1977 après la sortie de Even in the Quietest Moments…. Au Canada, il a finalement été certifié Diamant (ventes d’un million d’exemplaires). L’album était le premier de Supertramp à présenter le batteur Bob Siebenberg (à l’époque crédité sous le nom de Bob C. La dédicace de l’album se lit « To Sam », qui est un surnom de Stanley August Miesegaes, le millionnaire néerlandais qui a soutenu financièrement le groupe de 1969 à 1972.

Crime of the Century is the third studio album by the English rock band Supertramp, released in September 1974 on A&M Records. Crime of the Century was Supertramp’s commercial breakthrough in many countries, most notably in the UK, Canada and Germany where it peaked in the Top 5 while also making the Top 20 in Australia and France. It was an improvement over their previous sales in the US, but still only peaked at No. 38, with the US hit being « Bloody Well Right ». « School » was another popular track, particularly at album rock-oriented radio stations. The album was eventually certified Gold in the US in 1977 after the release of Even in the Quietest Moments…. In Canada, it was eventually certified Diamond (sales of one million copies). The album was Supertramp’s first to feature drummer Bob Siebenberg (at the time credited as Bob C. Benberg), saxophone and clarinet player and vocalist John Helliwell, bassist Dougie Thomson, and co-producer Ken Scott. The album has received critical acclaim, including its inclusion in Rolling Stone’s « 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time ».
The album’s dedication reads « To Sam », which is a nickname for Stanley August Miesegaes, the Dutch millionaire who supported the band financially from 1969 to 1972.
