Dario Argento (italien : [ˈdaːrjo arˈdʒɛnto] ; né le 7 septembre 1940) est un réalisateur, producteur, scénariste et critique italien. Son travail influent dans le genre de l’horreur au cours des années 1970 et 1980, en particulier dans le sous-genre connu sous le nom de giallo, l’a conduit à être surnommé le « Maître du frisson » et le « Maître de l’horreur ».
Ses films en tant que réalisateur incluent la « Trilogie des animaux », composée de L’oiseau au plumage de cristal (1970), The Cat o’ Nine Tails (1971) et Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971) ; la trilogie « Three Mothers », composée de Suspiria (1977), Inferno (1980) et The Mother of Tears (2007); et les films indépendants Deep Red (1975), Tenebrae (1982), Phenomena (1985) et Opera (1987). Il a co-écrit le scénario d’Once Upon a Time in the West de Sergio Leone (1968) et a été consultant pour le scénario de George A. Romero sur Dawn of the Dead (1978), dont il a également composé la bande originale avec ses collaborateurs de longue date, The Goblin.

Dario Argento (Italian: [ˈdaːrjo arˈdʒɛnto]; born 7 September 1940) is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter and critic. His influential work in the horror genre during the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in the subgenre known as giallo, has led him to being referred to as the « Master of the Thrill » and the « Master of Horror ».
His films as director include the « Animal Trilogy », consisting of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970), The Cat o’ Nine Tails (1971) and Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971); the « Three Mothers » trilogy, consisting of Suspiria (1977), Inferno (1980) and The Mother of Tears (2007); and the standalone films Deep Red (1975), Tenebrae (1982), Phenomena (1985), and Opera (1987). He co-wrote the screenplay for Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) and served as George A. Romero’s script consultant on Dawn of the Dead (1978), of which he also composed the soundtrack with his long-time collaborators, The Goblin.
