« In Private »

« In Private » est une chanson de la chanteuse britannique Dusty Springfield, sortie en single le 20 novembre 1989 chez Parlophone et EMI.

Il s’agissait de son troisième single consécutif à se classer dans les charts, après une absence de près de vingt ans. « In Private », tout comme son précédent single « Nothing Has Been Proved », a été produit par les Pet Shop Boys, qui avaient déjà contribué à son retour sur le devant de la scène avec leur tube de 1987 « What Have I Done to Deserve This? ».

Ces deux singles figuraient sur son album britannique « Reputation », sorti en 1990. « In Private » a atteint la 14e place des charts britanniques et s’est classé dans le top 10 en Allemagne de l’Ouest, aux Pays-Bas, en Belgique (Flandre) et en Suède. En 2025, le magazine Billboard l’a classé 26e dans sa liste des « 100 plus grands hymnes LGBTQ+ de tous les temps ».

« In Private » is a song by British singer Dusty Springfield, released as a single on 20 November 1989 by Parlophone and EMI.

It was Springfield’s third single in a row to be a chart success, after an absence of nearly two decades from the charts. Both « In Private » and Springfield’s previous single, « Nothing Has Been Proved » were produced by Pet Shop Boys, who helped return Springfield to prominence with their 1987 hit collaboration « What Have I Done to Deserve This? ».

Both Springfield singles were included on her 1990 British album Reputation. « In Private » peaked at number 14 in the British charts and was a top ten hit in West Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium (Flanders) and Sweden. In 2025, Billboard magazine ranked it number 26 in their list of « The 100 Greatest LGBTQ+ Anthems of All Time ».

Sophie B. Hawkins

Sophie B. Hawkins (née Sophie Ballantine Hawkins le 1er novembre 1964 dans le quartier de Manhattan à New York) est une auteure-compositrice-interprète, musicienne et peintre américaine.

Sophie B. Hawkins est née et a grandi à New York. Après avoir fréquenté la Manhattan School of Music, elle commence sa carrière musicale comme percussionniste. Elle accompagne ainsi brièvement Bryan Ferry, mais comme son jeu ne convient pas au chanteur, elle est virée. Dans la foulée, elle écrit et compose chez elle la chanson « Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover. » Sophie B. Hawkins considère cet épisode comme une étape importante, puisque c’est avec cette chanson qu’elle commence sa carrière de chanteuse.

Sophie B. Hawkins

Sophie B. Hawkins (born Sophie Ballantine Hawkins on November 1, 1964 in the Manhattan borough of New York City) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and painter.

Sophie B. Hawkins was born and raised in New York City. After attending the Manhattan School of Music, she began her musical career as a percussionist. She briefly accompanied Bryan Ferry, but was fired when her playing did not suit the singer. She then wrote and composed the song « Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover » at home. Sophie B. Hawkins considers this episode to be a milestone, as it was with this song that she began her singing career.

Bruce Springsteen

 « Streets of Philadelphia  » est une chanson écrite et interprétée par le musicien de rock américain Bruce Springsteen pour le film Philadelphia (1993) avec Tom Hanks , un des premiers films grand public traitant du VIH / SIDA. Sorti en single en 1994, la chanson a été un succès dans de nombreux pays, notamment en Autriche, au Canada, en France, en Allemagne, en Islande, en Irlande, en Italie et en Norvège, où elle a dominé les charts des singles. Aux États-Unis, le single culmine à la neuvième place du Billboard Hot 100.

La chanson a été acclamée et a remporté l’Oscar de la meilleure chanson originale et quatre Grammy Awards : chanson de l’année, meilleure chanson rock, meilleure performance vocale rock, solo et meilleure chanson écrite spécifiquement pour un film ou une télévision. En 2004, il a terminé à la 68ème place 68 de l’ AFI 100 Years … 100 Songs sur les meilleurs morceaux du cinéma américain.

Bruce Springsteen

« Streets of Philadelphia » is a song written and performed by American rock musician Bruce Springsteen for the film Philadelphia (1993) starring Tom Hanks, an early mainstream film dealing with HIV/AIDS. Released as a single in 1994, the song was a hit in many countries, particularly in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, and Norway, where it topped the singles charts. In the United States, the single peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song received acclaim and went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song and four Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Best Rock Song, Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo, and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television.  « Nothing Else Matters »

Metallica

Nothing Else Matters est une chanson du groupe de heavy metal Metallica, figurant sur l’album Metallica (plus souvent nommé Black Album en raison de sa pochette entièrement noire à l’exception d’un serpent gris) sorti en 1991. Elle demeure une des plus connues du groupe.

Cette ballade diffère des compositions habituelles du groupe. Elle commence par une longue introduction jouée à la guitare acoustique. Ses paroles évoquent sur un ton mélancolique l’indépendance et ce qui est le plus important dans la vie. Cette chanson a participé au succès commercial du groupe en lui ouvrant les portes d’une diffusion plus grand public : elle fut ainsi classée à la 34^e place au Billboard Hot 100 le  mai 1992. Elle a été reprise par de nombreux groupes hors de l’univers heavy metal. Nothing Else Matters est parfois considérée par certains détracteurs comme le symbole du virage qu’aurait pris le groupe Metallica par rapport à la musique des albums précédents, plus rude, plus thrash et moins commerciale.

Metallica

Nothing Else Matters is a song by heavy metal band Metallica, featured on the album Metallica (more often referred to as the Black Album due to its all-black cover except for a gray snake) released in 1991. It remains one of best known to the group.

This ballad differs from the band’s usual compositions. It begins with a long introduction played on the acoustic guitar. His lyrics speak in a melancholic tone about independence and what’s most important in life. This song contributed to the group’s commercial success by opening the doors to a wider audience: it was thus ranked at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1992. It has been covered by many groups outside the heavy metal universe. Nothing Else Matters is sometimes seen by some detractors as a symbol of Metallica’s shift away from the rougher, more thrashy and less commercial music of previous albums.

Michael Gordon Oldfield, dit Mike Oldfield, né le 15 mai 1953 à Reading (Berkshire), est un musicien multi-instrumentiste et auteur-compositeur britannique.

Il est surtout connu pour son premier album studio « Tubular Bells » (1973),  dont est extrait la bande originale du film « L’exorciste » que vous pouvez voir dans cet article en version française ou version originale. Une longue et belle carrière que je vous propose de suivre en musique.

Mike oldfield

Michael Gordon Oldfield, known as Mike Oldfield, born 15 May 1953 in Reading (Berkshire), is a British multi-instrumentalist musician and songwriter.

He is best known for his first studio album « Tubular Bells » (1973), from which the soundtrack of the film « The Exorcist » is taken, which you can see in this article in French or original version. A long and beautiful career that I suggest you follow in music.
