« Stay on these roads »

a-ha est un groupe de new wave norvégien, originaire d’Oslo. Initialement formé en 1982, et séparé en 2010, a-ha se reforme en 2015 pour la sortie d’un nouvel album et une tournée. Tout au long de son existence, il est composé du chanteur Morten Harket, du guitariste Pål Waaktaar-Savoy et du claviériste Magne Furuholmen. Il rencontre un grand succès au milieu des années 1980 avec les singles Take on Me, The Sun Always Shines on T.V. et Hunting High and Low, notamment.

Le groupe sort cinq albums avant de prendre une pause de quatre ans dès 1994. En 1998, les membres d’a-ha se réunissent à l’occasion du concert du prix Nobel de la paix et y chantent un nouveau titre, lequel figure ensuite sur un nouvel album qui sort deux ans plus tard. Trois autres albums suivent en 2002, 2005 et 2009, puis les membres du groupe annoncent leur séparation en 2010. En 2016, le groupe compte dix albums studio, quatre albums live et plusieurs compilations.

D’après plusieurs sites, notamment consacrés au groupe, le nom « a-ha » vient d’une chanson de Jim Morrison (des Doors, groupe qu’ils admiraient particulièrement avec Joy Division). Ce mot se prononçant dans toutes les langues et signifiant la joie ou la surprise, ils décident de l’adopter.

Avec plus de 35 millions d’albums vendus, a-ha reste à ce jour le groupe de musique pop originaire de Norvège ayant connu le plus de succès.

Throughout its existence, it consisted of vocalist Morten Harket, guitarist Pål Waaktaar-Savoy and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen. He had great success in the mid-1980s with the singles Take on Me, The Sun Always Shines on T.V. and Hunting High and Low, among others.

The group released five albums before taking a four-year hiatus in 1994. In 1998, the members of a-ha met at the Nobel Peace Prize concert and sang a new song there, on a new album released two years later. Three other albums follow in 2002, 2005 and 2009, then the members of the group announce their separation in 2010. In 2016, the group has ten studio albums, four live albums and several compilations.

According to several sites, especially devoted to the group, the name « a-ha » comes from a song by Jim Morrison (of the Doors, a group they particularly admired with Joy Division). This word being pronounced in all languages ​​and meaning joy or surprise, they decided to adopt it.

With over 35 million albums sold, a-ha remains Norway’s most successful pop band to this day.

Arena est un album live du groupe de new wave anglais Duran Duran. Il est sorti le 12 novembre 1984 chez Parlophone. En 2004, l’album est réédité sur CD sous forme remasterisée avec deux titres bonus.

Duran Duran  est un groupe new wave britannique, originaire de Birmingham. Il fait partie un temps de la vague Nouveaux Romantiques associée à la new wave des années 1980. Le groupe est formé en 1978 par Nick Rhodes (claviers) et John Taylor (basse). Ils sont ensuite rejoints par Roger Taylor (batterie), Andy Taylor (guitare) et Simon Le Bon (chant). Les trois Taylor du groupe n’ont aucun lien de parenté.

Arena is a live album by English new wave band Duran Duran. It was released on 12 November 1984 by Parlophone. In 2004, the album was reissued on CD in remastered form with two bonus tracks.

Duran Duran is a British new wave band from Birmingham. For a time, it was part of the New Romantics wave associated with the New Wave of the 1980s. The group was formed in 1978 by Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass). They are then joined by Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar) and Simon Le Bon (vocals). The three Taylors in the group are not related.

« Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) » est une chanson du groupe  australien Hillsong United. Elle est sortie le 23 août 2013 en tant que deuxième et dernier single de leur troisième album studio, Zion (2013). La chanson est dirigée par Taya Smith et a été écrite par Matt Crocker, Joel Houston et Salomon Ligthelm, la production étant assurée par Michael Guy Chislett.

Les idées de chanson ont commencé tôt dans la production de l’album. Crocker a travaillé avec Ligthelm plus tard en Australie pour écrire davantage de paroles et Ligthelm a aidé à décider que le thème de la chanson devait être celui de l’entrée dans l’inconnu et de la confiance aveugle de Peter pour marcher sur l’eau. Une grande partie de la mélodie a été écrite au cours de 10 jours dans l’appartement de Houston à New York. Les dernières paroles ont été écrites près d’une cascade le dernier jour de l’enregistrement.

La chanson a été enregistrée par la chanteuse Taya Smith qui a chanté de nombreuses parties de la chanson en une seule prise.

« Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) » is a song by Australian worship group Hillsong United. It was released on 23 August 2013 as the second and final single from their third studio album, Zion (2013). The song is led by Taya Smith, and was written by Matt Crocker, Joel Houston and Salomon Ligthelm, with production being handled by Michael Guy Chislett.

The song ideas began early in the production of the album. Crocker worked with Ligthelm later back in Australia to write more of the lyrics and Ligthelm helped deciding that the theme of the song should be about stepping into the unknown and Peter having blind trust to walk on water. Much of the melody was written over the course of 10 days at Houston’s apartment in New York. The last lyrics were written at a waterfall on the final day of recording.

The song was recorded by singer Taya Smith who sang many parts of the song in one take.

A thought is a prayer and I dedicate it to you, Anaïs. I miss you.

„Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” este o melodie a trupei australiane Hillsong United. A fost lansat pe 23 august 2013 ca al doilea și ultimul single de pe al treilea album de studio, Zion (2013). Cântecul este regizat de Taya Smith și a fost scris de Matt Crocker, Joel Houston și Salomon Ligthelm, producția fiind ocupată de Michael Guy Chislett.

Ideile de cântece au început la începutul producției albumului. Crocker a lucrat cu Ligthelm mai târziu în Australia pentru a scrie mai multe versuri, iar Ligthelm a ajutat să decidă că tema cântecului ar trebui să fie una a pășirii în necunoscut și a credinței oarbe a lui Peter de a merge pe apă. O mare parte din melodie a fost scrisă pe parcursul a 10 zile în apartamentul din Houston din New York. Versurile finale au fost scrise lângă o cascadă în ultima zi de înregistrare.

Cântecul a fost înregistrat de cântăreața Taya Smith, care a cântat multe părți ale cântecului dintr-o singură mișcare.

« Saltwater » est une chanson de Chicane avec la voix de la chanteuse irlandaise Máire Brennan. Le morceau utilise des parties du hit de 1982 de Clannad « Theme from Harry’s Game » avec des paroles réenregistrées et nouvellement écrites.

Le titre est sorti en tant que single en 1999, atteignant la sixième position du UK Singles Chart et devenant un piste de trance populaire dans les clubs à travers l’Europe. En 2003, la chanson a été utilisée dans une campagne touristique nationale pour l’Irlande et également par le conseil municipal de Belfast dans des publicités faisant la promotion de la ville.

« Saltwater » is a song by Chicane featuring the vocals of Irish singer Máire Brennan. The track uses parts of Clannad‘s 1982 hit « Theme from Harry’s Game » with both re-recorded and newly written lyrics.

It was released as a single in 1999, reaching the number six position on the UK Singles Chart and becoming a popular trance track in clubs across Europe. In 2003, the song was used in a national tourism campaign for Ireland and also by Belfast City Council in adverts promoting the city.

« Sweet Lullaby »

Sweet Lullaby une chanson du groupe français Deep Forest, du genre musique du monde ou « électronique ethnique ». Cette chanson est le titre phare de leur premier album Deep Forest sorti en 1992. Ce groupe s’est spécialisé dans le mélange de musique électronique de type dance ou new age avec des chants d’ethnies africaines, amérindiennes, etc.

Origine : Rorogwela

Sweet Lullaby signifie en anglais « douce berceuse », et utilise des extraits d’une berceuse traditionnelle des ethnies baegu et fateleka des îles Salomon, interprétée par Afunakwa et enregistrée aux alentours de 1970 par l’ethnomusicologue Hugo Zemp dans le village de Fulinui. La berceuse, chantée en langue baegu et appelée Rorogwela, est le chant d’un jeune garçon demandant à son frère cadet d’arrêter ses pleurs et lui expliquant que l’amour de leurs parents décédés veille sur eux.

La chanson d’Afunakwa est intégrée en 1973 à un LP intitulé Solomon Islands: Fateleka and Baegu Music from Malaita publié par la Musical Sources collection de l’UNESCO. Seuls quelques couplets (marqués ci-dessous en gras) ont été réutilisés dans Sweet Lullaby. L’interprétation d’Afunakwa fut également réutilisée par le disc jockey italien Mauro Picotto dans sa chanson Komodo, et la mélodie reprise par le saxophoniste norvégien Jan Garbarek, dans sa chanson intitulée erronément Pygmy Lullaby. Afunakwa est décédée au cours des années 1990.

This group specialized in mixing electronic dance or new age music with songs from African, Native American, etc. ethnic groups.

Origin: Rorogwela

Sweet Lullaby uses excerpts from a traditional lullaby of the baegu and fateleka ethnic groups of the Solomon Islands, performed by Afunakwa and recorded around 1970 by ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp in the village of Fulinui. The lullaby, sung in the Baegu language and called Rorogwela, is the song of a young boy asking his younger brother to stop his crying and explaining to him that the love of their deceased parents is watching over them.

Afunakwa’s song was included in 1973 on an LP titled Solomon Islands: Fateleka and Baegu Music from Malaita published by the UNESCO Musical Sources collection. Only a few verses (marked below in bold) were reused in Sweet Lullaby. Afunakwa’s rendition was also reused by Italian disc jockey Mauro Picotto in his song Komodo, and the melody covered by Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek, in his song erroneously titled Pygmy Lullaby. Afunakwa died in the 1990s.

Acest grup s-a specializat în amestecarea muzicii de dans electronic sau new age cu melodii din grupuri etnice africane, native americane etc.

Sweet Lullaby înseamnă „dulce cantic de leagăn” în engleză și folosește fragmente dintr-un cântec de leagăn tradițional al grupurilor etnice baegu și fateleka din Insulele Solomon, interpretat de Afunakwa și înregistrat în jurul anului 1970 de etnomuzicologul Hugo Zemp în satul Fulinui. Cântecul de leagăn, cântat în limba baegu și numit Rorogwela, este cântecul unui băiat care îi cere fratelui său mai mic să-și oprească plânsul și îi explică că dragostea părinților lor decedați îi veghează.

Cântecul lui Afunakwa a fost inclus în 1973 pe un LP intitulat Insulele Solomon: Fateleka and Baegu Music from Malaita publicat de colecția Surse muzicale UNESCO. Doar câteva versete (marcate mai jos cu caractere aldine) au fost refolosite în Sweet Lullaby. Interpretarea lui Afunakwa a fost refolosită și de disc jockey-ul italian Mauro Picotto în melodia sa Komodo, iar melodia interpretată de saxofonistul norvegian Jan Garbarek, în melodia sa intitulată eronat Pygmy Lullaby. Afunakwa a murit în anii 1990.

Mike Oldfield

Michael Gordon Oldfield, dit Mike Oldfield, né le  à Reading (Berkshire), est un musicien multi-instrumentiste et auteur-compositeur britannique.

Il est surtout connu pour son premier album studio « Tubular Bells » (1973),  dont est extrait la bande originale du film « L’exorciste » que vous pouvez voir dans cet article en version française ou version originale. Une longue et belle carrière que je vous propose de suivre en musique.

Ce que j’apprécie chez Mike Oldfield, c’est sa simplicité. Il fait partie des gens que j’aime. Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Jarre, Marouani….  Que du bonheur.

Je vous propose une superbe version importée du Japon de ce tube international : “The power of love” sorti en 1984 qui avait été repris par la chanteuse Céline Dion en 1993 et qui a selon mon goût  n’a vraiment rien à voir avec l’original. Je vous laisse juge.

 » Always the Sun  » est une chanson du groupe de rock anglais The Stranglers , sortie pour la première fois en single le 6 octobre 1986, le deuxième single du neuvième album studio du groupe Dreamtime (1986). Une version remixée est sortie en single le 24 décembre 1990. Les deux versions figuraient dans le Top 30 des succès au Royaume-Uni. « Always the Sun » est sorti en octobre 1986 dans quatre formats différents : un single de 7 pouces, un disque image de 7 pouces en forme, un single de 12 pouces et un double pack de 7 pouces.

A remixed version was released as a single on 24 December 1990. Both versions were Top 30 hits in the United Kingdom. « Always the Sun » was released in October 1986 in four different formats: a seven-inch single, shaped seven-inch picture disc, twelve-inch single, and as a double seven-inch single pack.

„Always the Sun” este o melodie a trupei engleze de rock The Stranglers, lansată pentru prima dată ca single pe 6 octombrie 1986, al doilea single de pe cel de-al nouălea album de studio al trupei Dreamtime (1986). O versiune remixată a fost lansată ca single pe 24 decembrie 1990. Ambele versiuni au fost hituri de top 30 în Regatul Unit. „Always the Sun” a fost lansat în octombrie 1986 în patru formate diferite: un single de șapte inci, un disc cu imagini de șapte inci, un single de doisprezece inci și un pachet dublu de șapte inci.
