1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four) est le plus célèbre roman de George Orwell, publié en 1949.
Il décrit une Grande-Bretagne trente ans après une guerre nucléaire entre l’Est et l’Ouest censée avoir eu lieu dans les années 1950 et où s’est instauré un régime de type totalitaire fortement inspiré à la fois du stalinisme et de certains éléments du nazisme. La liberté d’expression n’existe plus. Toutes les pensées sont minutieusement surveillées et d’immenses affiches sont placardées dans les rues, indiquant à tous que « Big Brother vous regarde » (Big Brother is watching you).
1984 est communément considéré comme une référence du roman d’anticipation, de la dystopie, voire de la science-fiction en général. La principale figure du roman, Big Brother, est devenue une figure métaphorique du régime policier et totalitaire, de la société de la surveillance, ainsi que de la réduction des libertés.

El descrie o Britanie la treizeci de ani după un război nuclear între Est și Vest care ar fi trebuit să aibă loc în anii 1950 și unde s-a stabilit un regim de tip totalitar puternic inspirat atât de stalinism, cât și de anumite elemente ale nazismului. Libertatea de exprimare nu mai există. Toate gândurile sunt monitorizate cu atenție și afișele uriașe sunt tencuite pe străzi spunând tuturor „Fratele cel Mare te privește”.
1984 este considerat pe scară largă ca un reper al romanului anticipativ, al distopiei și chiar al science fiction-ului în general. Figura principală a romanului, Big Brother, a devenit o figură metaforică a regimului polițienesc și totalitar, a societății de supraveghere, precum și a reducerii libertăților.

Un organisme humain à besoin de se confronter à son environnement pour s’en prémunir si vous l’en privez, vous le rendez vulnérable à la moindre des attaques bactériologiques et c’est exactement ce que vous êtes en train de faire avec ces putains de masques. En croyant vous protéger, vous ne faites que vous fragiliser.
Bandes de connards, votre organisme a besoin de son environnement et de connaitre ses ennemis si il veut s’en protéger. Avec vos masques de merde, vous ne faites que l’endormir et préparer le terrain à la prochaine attaque virale.
