Le correspond, dans la religion romaine, aux Lupercales, fêtes faunesques se déroulant du 13 au .
L’origine réelle de cette fête est attestée au xive siècle dans la Grande-Bretagne encore catholique où le jour de la Saint-Valentin du était fêté comme une fête des amoureux car l’on pensait que les oiseaux choisissaient ce jour pour s’apparier. Restée vivace dans le monde anglo-saxon, comme Halloween, cette fête s’est ensuite répandue à travers le continent européen.

14 februarie corespunde, în religia romană, Lupercaliilor, festivaluri faunistice care au loc în perioada 13-15 februarie.
Originea reală a acestei sărbători este atestată în secolul al XIV-lea în Anglia încă catolică, unde Ziua Îndrăgostiților de pe 14 februarie a fost sărbătorită ca sărbătoare a îndrăgostiților, deoarece se credea că păsările au ales această zi pentru a se pereche. Rămânând în viață în lumea anglo-saxonă, precum Halloween-ul, acest festival s-a răspândit apoi pe tot continentul european.

Remained alive in the Anglo-Saxon world, like Halloween, this festival then spread throughout the European continent.
