Pfizer dit avoir retiré une demande visant à autoriser l’utilisation de son vaccin Covid-19 en Inde. La société a promis de soumettre à nouveau l’application une fois qu’elle aura rassemblé plus de données.
Le fabricant de médicaments basé aux États-Unis a déclaré que la décision avait été prise après une réunion mercredi avec un groupe d’experts de l’organisme de réglementation de l’État indien. « Sur la base des délibérations de la réunion et de notre compréhension des informations supplémentaires dont le régulateur pourrait avoir besoin, la société a décidé de retirer sa demande pour le moment », a déclaré le porte-parole de Pfizer dans un communiqué.
La société a ajouté qu’elle «soumettra à nouveau sa demande d’approbation avec des informations supplémentaires dès qu’elles seront disponibles dans un proche avenir». Le journal Economic Times a cité une source gouvernementale disant que Pfizer souhaitait une dérogation pour un essai clinique pour son vaccin, développé conjointement avec la société allemande BioNTech, mais le régulateur a insisté sur une étude de transition en Inde. Les experts voulaient voir comment le vaccin fonctionnerait parmi la population indienne avant qu’il ne puisse être autorisé pour une utilisation générale dans le pays, a expliqué la source. »
The US-based drug-maker said that the decision was taken after a meeting with an expert panel from India’s state regulator on Wednesday.
“Based on the deliberations at the meeting and our understanding of additional information that the regulator may need, the company has decided to withdraw its application at this time,” Pfizer’s spokesperson said in a statement.
The company added that it will “resubmit its approval request with additional information as it becomes available in the near future.”
The Economic Times newspaper cited a government source saying that Pfizer wanted a clinical trial waiver for its vaccine, developed jointly with the German firm BioNTech, but the regulator has insisted on a bridging study in India. The experts wanted to see how the vaccine would work among the Indian population before it could be cleared for general use in the country, the source explained.

Le son et la lumière, un voyage astral et on peut refaire l’univers.

La musique est intemporelle et elle nous évade.
